Sunflower is one of the oldest plants known to man, which began to grow long before wheat - about three thousand years ago. The Mexican Toltec tribe considered him the embodiment of the sun - many buildings are decorated with his image, and it is also actively used in ceremonies during this period. The Spaniards brought him to Europe, but he received the greatest distribution at the court of Sun King Louis XIV, who planted many of these plants in Versailles.
Peter the Great brought it to Russia from Holland and for a long time the sunflower was grown as an ornamental plant, however, in 1829, the serf peasant Dmitry Bokarev developed a technology for producing oil from it, and in 1865 the first oil mill was launched in Voronezh province. The Orthodox Church recognized this butter as lean and therefore it gained great popularity among believers. Already at the end of the 19th century, the technology was bought by the Americans, and then it spread throughout the world.
